20TH CENTURY PHOTOGRAPH

Friedlanders,-Jan.jpg

In 1905, THE FRIEDLANDER FAMILY GATHERED in a photographer's studio in Libau, Latvia.

19-year old Herman was about to immigrate to the United States and his parents wanted a photograph to document the family in case this was the last time they would be together.

It was.

"20th Century Photograph" is a devised theater piece that relies on letters, historical documents, family legends, and a dose of conjecture to tell the story of what exactly happened to the ten people in this photograph.

First developed with London-based Russian director Veronica Wigg in the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab, a showcase production was presented at the Access Theatre in New York City in January, 2014.
